Matara

This seaside town situated in the southern end of Sri Lanka has an ancient  history.It is an important commercial hub and famous for its fishing industry. The Nilwala river runs through this town and the surrounding areas are rich with fauna and flora. The seas around are famous for dolphins and whales and one can do whale watching from the nearby towns .The Dondra light house which is nearby is the Southern most land point before the vast ocean and the South pole. Within the town one can visit the ancient Portuguese fort and other relics of our colonial past. The southern expressway provides quick and easy access to Matara from Colombo and a valuable opportunity for visitors local and foreign.
